Summation Opinion: A pleasant night out for a fair price.

In November 2006, we had the surprising pleasure of eating at Jesus Restaurant in Los Banos. Although its location and appearance are unassuming and it is one of the MANY choices for Mexican food in town, Jesus' Restaurant not only did a decent job food-wise, but stood out from many other restaurants in the area with their customer service and friendliness.

Our first impression of Jesus Restaurant as we drove into the parking lot wasn't all that great. Jesus restaurant certainly doesn't look like much to get excited over. It is in a mini-strip mall surrounded by a couple of small businesses. The coloring and signage is equally uninspiring so we did not expect a whole lot. As we entered we were reminded a little of a business class cafeteria complete with industrial looking carpet and tables and chairs would fit right into that sort of setting. There are a few decorations and some plants but no atmosphere producing any real theme.

We did notice, however, that the place was spotless. We have been to places in town where there is dust and cobwebs in the dining area and that always makes you wonder what is going on in the KITCHEN. This was not the case here, even the plants appeared to be dusted and clean.

Our server brought us a basket of chips with salsa and we ordered our sodas and meals. The menu has a typical selection of Mexican fare such as enchiladas, tacos and whatnot. The menu prices were fair and reasonable, especially considering the large portions that are served. I ordered a crab enchilada and my husband ordered a taco combination plate. Our meals also came with beans and rice.

My enchilada had a terrifically flavored sauce smothered with plenty of cheese. Despite the great flavor of the sauce however I was disappointed in that I BELIEVE that the crab meat was an imitation crab. I may be mistaken about that but it did not have the texture and appearance I would have expected from the real thing. Although this lessened my enthusiasm to a great degree, I did enjoy the beans which were quite flavorful and creamy, as well as the rice that had just the right amount of seasoning.

My husband's meal was met with a much greater degree of enjoyment from both of us. Of course I had to steal some, well okay a lot, of his food and we both raved about the flavor.

As you can tell from some of our other reviews customer service means a lot to us. Jesus Restaurant does a very good job in this area. Throughout the entire meal we were served by two ladies, both of them quite friendly and full of smiles. They were prompt, kept our sodas and chip basket filled and made sure we had what we needed at all times. Neither of them was intrusive but gave just the right amount of service that left us feeling "taken care of".

Jesus Restaurant isn't a "fancy" place and it doesn't appear to have any "specialties" that we noticed as compared to the many other Mexican restaurants in town. What they did have though was a friendliness that stood out and helped to make our experience more enjoyable. The great customer service and attention to cleanliness pushed this establishment up an extra notch to attain a 3 star rating as opposed to a 2 which we might have given it based on the meal and the crab issue. We don't think this is the place we would want to go to celebrate an anniversary, but it works just fine if you want some good l Mexican fare served up in a friendly and clean atmosphere.

Though it's not our first choice for a night out, we'll probably be back at some point to enjoy a quality meal served by a very friendly staff.

The results are sometimes quite fascinating and are always interesting. Beware however you may not want to eat at certain places once you read some of the more dramatic entries.
