Unlike
many small towns, Los Banos California is blessed to have its own municipal
airport. The Airport is known to be one of the many "100 dollar hamburger
stops" for aviators flying through the San Joaquin Valley. That is to say
that there are many pilots who will drop into LosBanos Muni and make a short trip
up the road to get a bite to eat at one of the many Los
Banos dining establishments. We have developed a webpage about this friendly
little airport from which you can descend from the heavens or punch a hole into
the sky. Click here for more information about the Los
Banos Airport. Local Communication
Los
Banos is surrounded by agriculture. Tomatoes, almonds, cotton, melons, corn, and
many other crops thrive here. There are also a number of dairies, goat ranches,
sheep ranches , and other livestock businesses that thrive outside the borders
of the city. Suburban residents of Los Banos do not have to feel "asphalt-locked"
with so much nature and open space within a very short drive. Even so Los Banos
still has a very high tech population since a large percentage of the town commutes
over the hill each day to work in Silicon Valley. Many of those commuters
keep up with the happenings of the city through online sources for community information
such as the Los Banos Online Forums where people
come to talk about Los Banos, it's people, and just about anything else. We also
have local television... Local Television Channel:
TV 96 Los Banos has a local
cable TV channel: ch96. This community resource is also available online.
The internet feed which regularly shows live feeds and 'video' replays of city
council meetings, school board meetings, and more can be found here: Live
Internet feed of Channel 96. We applaud the city leadership for making this
resource available to the public on the Internet We are also pleased to see that
the official city website archives some of the video of city council meetings
and other such community events on their site in such a way that the public can
view these important political events at their leisure. Public
Access Television: TV 95 Los Banos is also about to get public access
TV - this is run by the Los Banos Community Access
Group, Inc. "TV For The People, By The People." The mission of the Los Banos
Community Access Group is to facilitate broadcast access of locally produced programming
to the Cable TV System by providing the community of Los Banos with training,
access to equipment, and a distribution outlet for programming content. Programming
content to contain (but not limited to): Community Events and Forums, Distance
Learning/Job Training, School Sports, Cultural Events, Church Services, and other
activities that stimulate discussion and the free exchange of ideas. Flea
Market Every Friday evening there is a Flea Market in Los Banos. Click

History
of Los Banos We
are very pleased to announce that OurLosBanos.com has been provided with a short
history of Los Banos by Mr. Charles Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer is a local writer
and editor of history books and he serves as a historian and curator at the Milliken
Museum. We are indeed very grateful for Mr. Sawyer's work in producing the history
text that appears on this website. If you would like to meet him, Mr.
Sawyer is regularly present on Saturdays at the local Los Banos history museum
where he does docent work and interpretation of the many exhibits on display.
The Milliken Museum is easily found near Pacheco Park
at 905 Pacheco Boulevard (Highway 152) about midway through town. We
would like to encourage our neighbors and indeed everyone that reads this website
to invest a few hours of your time and make a pilgrimage to the Milliken
Museum. The Museum is open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 1pm to
4pm (13:00 to 16:00 hours) . There is no charge collected at the door when you
visit the museum but visitors do have the opportunity to make donations at the
counter or purchase local history books if they wish to do so. The Milliken museum
features static historical exhibits of all types and is a must see if you live
in Los Banos or are interested in the history of the region. The
Milken Museum can be reached at 209-826-5505. For
more information on the museum and local history click

we can and will say about Los Banos. We plan on adding to this page and to this
website on a very regular basis. We believe that having a positive and continually
updated community resource like this one available for everyone to enjoy is important
and we hope that you will find this site helpful and interesting. We
REALLY want your input - both positive and negative about this website. You are
very strongly encouraged to post your opinions on
our public forums or you can contact us via e-mail. You
should also visit the Official City of Los Banos website. This site which is run
by the good folks at City Hall will give you
an introduction to our local government, allow you to pay your water bill online,
introduce you to the city council, and a lot more. The
Chamber of commerce also maintains a website.
Here you can find a number of businesses and other helpful information about the
town. |
