Topic 13 MaterialsClick the picture of the books to the left to get more information about the titles and materials used in this topic - including reviews, current prices (new & used) and more!

This history topic is about the Pilgrims and Squanto. Scroll down to the schedule below for all of the activities! While studying this topic you will get to:

  • Learn about the Pilgrims, why they went to American and what they did once they got here
  • Make wampum
  • Cook up some hasty pudding
  • Construct History Pockets with all sorts of fun activities
  • Make a wave bottle *If you use the Pilgrim's unit book instead of History Pockets

and of course much more!

This is a rather lengthy topic because an entire History Pockets book is used for it. I think it's beneficial to spend some time on the Pilgrims because they can help our children understand some of the reasons "why" someone would want to start a new life in a new country. The pilgrims are also an easy to understand picture of early colonial life and some of the struggles faced. Besides, don't you remember learning about the Pilgrims and enjoying it (and not only enjoying it, but actually REMEMBERING it)? This is a fun and traditional topic for this age group. Snatch your chance to do it now, because they won't love it as much when they are older and past donning pretend Pilgrim hats to "play" what they're "learning". ;-)
