Books and Materials for Topic 6

Icon Key and Explanations

If You Lived With The Indians Of The Northwest Coast (by Anne Kamma)

Topic 6

Land of the Eagle. Vol. 7, The First and Last Frontier / Thirteen/WNET in association with BBC/Bristol.

Topic 6

Miracle of the Scarlet Salmon [videorecording] / produced by WNET/New York in association with the Nature Conservancy ; a co-production of WNET and BBC-TV
We really enjoyed this movie about salmon. Both of my sons really liked watching the salmon struggle up waterfalls and bears taking an easy snack. I think just about any movie from your local library on salmon will do if you can't find this one.

Topic 6

Northwest Coast Punch-Out Village
This is an attractive
punch-out model that makes a nice "playset". It's not as "easy" as it looks, especially for an 8 year old. My son punched out most of the parts himself (while whining how some were tearing) and then I ended up gluing and taping most of the pieces together while he "colored" a river for the boat (his idea). Although the set was a minor pain to put together (I'm not a model kind of person), my son was thrilled with the final results and it did make for a memorable project. Throughout putting the model together we talked about the Tlinget and afterwards "played" at having a potlatch. Click on the picture to the right to see how our model turned out.

This is an OPTIONAL model because I have posted a url for a FREE printable model on the topic 6 page.

Topic 6
