Calendar Events:

September 1st - Deadline to enter your art for the Weekend with the Arts III as well as the Quilters Seasons and Colors show. Call Colleen Meneffee (489-9202), Mary Bardmess (826-4389) or Sandra Juarez (826-9330) to register.

All work must be original and produced within the past 2 years. Limit 2-4 pieces. Space for every submission is not guaranteed. Work must be matted or framed and must be ready to hange. Work can be watercolor, mixed media, drawing, acrylic, oils, collage and sculpture including ceramics. If you are interested in selling your work, please indicate asking price. A 15% donation will be requested by the Arts Council for work sold during the show.

Registration should include the following:

Name, number of submissions, title of the piece submitted, phone number, address, email (optional), category: professional / amateur / student, type of work, Are works available for sale, and if so what are the price(s)?

September 2 - Writing your life stories senior class begins. This class is for seniors to "recall, record and gather memories of their families". The class will be taughter through Merced Community College by John Spevak.

September 3 - An attorney will be available from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Free notary and legal services are available to seniors 60 years of age and over. Call Merced at 385-7550 for an appointment and more information.

September 3 - The first Wednesday of each month is the regular dinner meeting night of the Los Banos Sportsmen’s Association. Guests are welcome.

September 3 - There will be a 4-H Meeting at the OLF School Cafe at 6 PM. Please call Donna at 826-2022 for more information.

September 4 - The Community Prayer Group is a non denominational group of people of faith from many different congregations who meet on the first Thursday of each month at 1PM. September 6 - Tule Elk Days BBQ - more details coming. There will be a dinner hosted at the Sportsmen's Club in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Los Banos Rotary Club following the last Elk Tour. The bar opens at 6PM and dinner will be served at 7PM.

September 8 - Los Banos Community 4-H meets at the Henry Miller Elementary School cafeteria at 7 PM. Call Debbie at 387-9707.

September 9 - Parent Talk a support group for parents of children with every kind of disability meets every second Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 250 West Adams from 1:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m. Child Care is provided. September 9 -Challenged Support Group A parent support group offered through Challenged Family Resource Center. The group meets at St. John's Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. every second Tuesday of the Month. All parents with a child or children with a disability are invited to attend. September 13 - Elks Lodge Black Hat Social For more info call 1-209-827-3244. 10th Annual Elks Lodge Black Hat Dinner Dance will be at the Delta Farms Party Barn at 13816 Bisignani Road. Cocktails served from 6 PM (no host) and dinner starts at 7 . Dinner is planned as: barbecue baby back ribs, chicken, beans and salad. Cost is $25 per person. September 15 - Homeowners & Renters Assistance for Seniors program. It's time to file for this tax assistance. There will be a volunteer at the Miller & Lux building from 9 am to 1 pm for walk-ins and by appointment only from 1 pm to 4pm. For information on who qualifies come in or call 827-7046.

Special events: vendors, demonstrations, raffle prizes. Admission is $5 and good for all 4 days. The raffle drawing will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. You need not be present to win.

September 26 - Salute To Seniors Fair at the Los Banos Fairgrounds- Exhibit booths, door prizes, bingo, a luncheon, and more are planned! Opening ceremonies will be at 10 am and will feature the VFW and American Legion Color Guard. Lunch will be served at 12 pm after the senior volunteer recognition ceremony at 11:30. The exhibitor raffle begins at 12:30 pm. For more details call the Los Banos Rec department at 1-209- 827-7046.

September 27, 2008 - California Fish and Game has declared June 7th 2008 and September 27 2008 free fishing days. You do not need a fishing license if you want to fish the great areas around Los Banos on these days. More information here.

September 27 - New Bethany Guild Enchanted Evening. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a wonderful dinner/auction. The live auction will include such items as a trip to Hawaii, hand made jewelry, gourmet baskets and more. The requested donation per person is $65. Tables can be reserved by request. This event will be catered by Espanas with a filet minon dinner. For more information call 826-3769.

There is a senior and disabled persons lunch from noon to 1 p.m. at McArthur Apartments, 1130 F St.
Food costs $2 and you don't have to worry about the cleanup!

Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Cherish's exercise program for seniors meets from 10-11 a.m. at the McArthur Apartments on F Street.

Monday and Friday
Senior's Arts & Crafts and Quilting Classes at 830 6th street from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm. (excluding holidays). Gloris is the instructor. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own project or work on a class project.

Monday:
Senior's Arts, Crafts and Quilting Class from 9 AM to 12 noon and 1 PM to 4 PM. Classes are held at 830 6th Street. Call 827-7046 for more information.

Senior's card game of 31 is played from 1 PM to 4 PM. at 830 6th Street.

Tuesdays:

Wednesdays:
Park Day! Every Wednesday
- 10 AM - Mothers and children of all ages meet in the park to chat and let their kids play. Children of all ages are welcome from infant to seventeen. Click here for more information.

Childbirth Classes at Memorial Hospital from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Call 826-0591 ext. 270 for more information.

Free breastfeeding support group. 1 PM at the education center in Memorial Hospital. Meet with other moms and measure your baby's progress.

Safesitter Babysitting class at Memorial Hospital. A child must be at least 11 years old to attend and the class costs $20. The class is from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information call 826,0591, ext. 270.

Four-H meeting the first Wednesday of every month at the Parish Hall next door to St. Joseph's Catholic Church on center Street

Senior's Open Game Day - from 8 to 4 pm, the senior's center come on in and play games. Various games are available, so bring your freinds! Cofee is available.

Point Man International Ministries are presently holding meeting for all Vets of all wars every Wednesday night from 7:30 to 8:30 ( PM ) At westside community church in the Fireside room. The church is located at 614 N. Mercey Springs Rd., Los Banos, Ca.

And working with other Veterans organizations for the betterment of the Veterans with special needs.

Narcotics Anonymous meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Greyhound Bus Depot, 820 G St.
