The Fourth of July is going to be celebrated in a big big way this year in Los Banos Calif. Not only is it the 231st anniversary of the birth of the United States, but 2007 marks the centennial or 100 year anniversary of the birth of Los Banos itself!

Many events are planned for those who attend the 4th of July celebrations in Los Banos Ca. Read on to learn about some of them!

• July 4 - "4th of July at the Fairgrounds" aka "The Old Fashioned Fourth of July" will be held at The Merced County Spring Fairgrounds. The gates open at 4 p.m. and the shin dig lasts until after the aerial fireworks displays have completed. The fireworks usually start a bit after it gets dark and last for a while - this will probably be over at about 9PM.

  Please be advised it is a really poor idea to bring your own fireworks to this event. It may even be illegal.

  3:00 to 5:00 - Karaoke Sign-ups
  4:00 - Bucket Brigade
  5:00 - Karaoke Contest
  6:30 - Little Miss & Mr. Firecracker Contest
  4:30 to 8:30 - Washington Mutual Kids Corner
  8:45 - Fireworks Show

  The Fourth of July Aerial Fireworks display is expected to be extravagant this year, perhaps twice as much as usual because the City Of Los Banos Ca. is celebrating its Centennial and has invested in putting on a much larger than usual fireworks display. The Chamber of Commerce of Los Banos and City Hall are working together to make this a very memorable experience.

  There will be activities from 4PM onward and will include what is being billed as a mini street faire. Service groups and organizations are going to have booths set up where people can buy food, beverages, treats, and probably merchandise as well. In the past there have been bounce houses set up for the kids.
  
  There Will be a Bucket Brigade held by the Los Banos Fire Department with teams from around the community. If interested call David Bond at 209- 675-2800
  
  The Golden State Gunslingers will be there doing cowboy quickdraw shooting and probably allowing the public to try their hand at it. This is a very fun activity.
  
  Many people bring folding chairs and make a real family fun time out of it.

• The annual Little Miss & Mr. " Firecracker " Contest will also be held at the Los Banos Fairgrounds "4th of July Centennial Celebration" at 5:00 pm (be there by 4:30).

  This event is for Boys & Girls from 3-9 years old. Division Winners will be broken up by age groups: Tiny Miss Firecracker, Petite Miss Firecracker, Little Miss Firecracker, and Little Mr. Firecracker . Talent Winner (optional) will be crowned, as well as Outstanding Special Awards.

  One contestant with the highest overall points will be crowned Miss or Mr. Centennial! (entries are limited ~ first come, first serve) Children will win Crowns, Prizes, Toys, and Gifts. It costs $20 to enter and no one goes home empty-handed! Wear your best Red, White & Blue playclothes! No fancy dress clothes please, we want the kids to look like kids!! • Personal Fireworks ARE LEGAL in Los Banos California! (Plenty of restrictions apply and we are not responsible for the above statement - Call the Los Banos Police Department and Fire Department to learn about all of the restrictions.
  
  Personal "Safe And Sane" fireworks will be available for purchase in Los Banos Ca starting on June 28th 2007 and sales must cease on the evening of July 4th.
  
  Seven firework stands will be set up throughout the city and each will be run by a local non profit organization.
  
  You can purchase legal fireworks at the following Los Banos Ca. locations:
  1. At the corner of Pacheco Blvd - hwy 152 and Mercy Springs Road - hwy 165
  2. K-mart parking area
  3. Save Mart Shopping Center
  4. San Luis Shopping Center
  5. WalMart's parking area
  6. Food 4 Less Shopping Center
  7. In-Shape City's parking area

Do not set of rockets or anything that explodes. This is illegal and unsafe. There is no reason to catch your neighbors roof on fire because you want to show off for your kids or be stupid.

Please call 911 if you are witnessing any unsafe or illegal acts or see illegal fireworks in use.
